Introduction to MENTARI Programme

The MENTARI Programme is a partnership between the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) of the Republic of Indonesia and the British Embassy Jakarta to develop low carbon energy in Indonesia. Watch this video to learn more about our aim, values, and scope of program. For further information on the programme please visit https://mentari.info/.

MENTARI Renewable Energy Pilot Project in Mata Redi

MENTARI aims to deliver inclusive economic growth and poverty reduction in Indonesia by supporting the uptake of low carbon energy. Through the Demonstration Project in Central Sumba, MENTARI will share proof of concept on how small-scale low carbon energy solutions can generate socio-economic benefits, particularly for women and marginalised groups. This video shows our specific focus on developing the low-carbon energy sector to best support disadvantaged communities, specifically those in eastern Indonesia.

Bringing Hope Through Clean Energy to Mata Redi

One of MENTARI’s objectives is to deliver low carbon energy projects to demonstrate the role of renewable energy access and an economically feasible business model in rural development. In this video, we share the progress of our first Demonstration Project in Mata Redi village, Central Sumba, in demonstrating that. We have developed a new approach to build and sustain mini-grids for rural electrification. We will build a solar-powered mini-grid, set up a Village-Owned Enterprise, promote knowledge transfer, safeguard the project’s sustainability, and improve their buying power and ability to pay for the electricity. We also support better planning and implementation that will lead to more sustainable mini-grids across Indonesia.

MENTARI Key achievements from May 2020 to March 2023

MENTARI promotes the uptake of low-carbon energy, supporting Indonesia’s just energy transition. The primary purpose of the programme is to act as a catalyst for accelerating Indonesia’s energy transition towards a cleaner electricity sector. This film shows the key achievements and impacts of that journey since the programme started in May 2020 to March 2023.
